There are some fabulous Year 5/6 innovators at Kaikorai School with great imaginations and a lot of persistence. Here's some of what they've achieved.
Design Thinking Challenge : Design a chair for your partner
Design equipment: paper. pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks
Design brief: Design a chair that reflects the comfort needs and interests of your partner.

Design a card which uses a circuit to make an LED glow.
Automata
These are prototypes that we made based on our automata research.

Anton & Jamie took the automata idea and ran with it. Check it out!
Matt S didn't quite finish but his mouse turned out really well.
Design & Make a Game
There is an amazing amount of thinking that goes into game making. Some students used Scratch (see below) and other students used Sploder.

Using Scratch to tell a story
Hetty & Elloise have been working really hard on their historical diary. They have used Scratch to tell part of the story. What an amazing job girls!
Paul's Game for his Sisters
Paul has worked so hard to problem solve. His perseverance has been incredible.

Websites
Check out these websites made by students in the class:
Paper Circuits
A group of students learned about series and parallel circuits as well as making switches. They used this to make LEDs light up.
Some children combined their knowledge of switches and circuits to make these glowing houses (best seen at night):
The next step is to use these ideas to create more personalised projects.

Circuits with Motors
Some students have discovered that if you off-set a motor it vibrates. This helps to make things move that the motor are attached to. The first project was a draw-bot. I wonder what will be next?
